Well, It’s official! I have signed up for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. This year, on November 8 I will complete (God willing) the Rock N Roll half marathon (13.1 miles) in Savannah. I’ve been wanting to do a half for some time now and I could not think of a better cause to raise money for while on this journey. It is a HUGE commitment – financially, physically, and emotionally but I know that I have it in me somewhere.
I will be doing this in honor of my friend, Erin who is only 26 years young. A few years ago she learned that she had Hodgkins lymphoma. She received a stem cell transplant and chemo and went into remission (after many bouts in the hospital and getting her gallbladder removed and shingles too). She is the toughest and most inspiring person that I’ve ever met. A few months ago during a routine scan, she learned that the disease had returned. As she fights for the second time and undergoes a bone marrow transplant, she still manages to keep a smile on her face. In addition to Erin’s battle, my maternal grandma has also battled lymphoma several times in the past twenty or so years making this disease hit home yet even harder.
Almost one million people in the US are either battling lymphoma, leukemia, or myeloma or are in remission at this exact moment. LLS is a is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. 75% of total expenses support cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services – this is a huge amount compared to most organizations.
I am humbly asking for your help and support.
In order to be a part of this wonderful team, I need to raise over a thousand dollars. I cannot do it without your support. No amount is too small, and no amount will go unappreciated by me. If you cannot give at this time, I ask that you consider sharing my fundraising website. You can make your financial contributions here. Everything donated is 100% tax deductible!!!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I cannot wait to share this journey with everyone!
